Descrizione

Easy round trip, slightly more demanding only in the stretch that leads to the Castle of Prefoglio.
The path called “Il Sentiero delle Acque” was rearranged and inaugurated in July 2020 by the municipality of Pieve Torina. You park along the road that leads to Colfiorito having several squares available. The outward stretch goes up the Sant’Angelo stream up to the hamlet of Fiume, passing over wooden bridges and admiring various waterfalls.
Along the way you come across a Roman bridge that you don’t have to cross to get to Fiume: it differs from other bridges because it is made of rock and not wood, as well as having a sheet that describes its characteristics.
After passing the Roman bridge on the left on the outward stretch, you can make a small detour to the right to see the largest waterfall.
Once in village Fiume, you can visit the old water mill (I found it closed but an inhabitant on the square kindly opened it to visitors). Also from Fiume you can take a detour to see the ruins of the Prefoglio Castle (there are only 2 towers) and the little church of the Madonna di Prefoglio (it was closed in December 2020): I found the path (slightly uphill) very wet even at due to the rains of the previous days but it was always clearly visible.
On the way back, having arrived at the Roman bridge, I decided to cross it and take a detour to get to the Hermitage of Sant’Angelo de Prefoglio (also known as the “Eremo dei Santi” or “Romitorio dei Santi”). The Hermitage was closed in December 2020 due to the 2016 earthquake. There is a walkway that almost allows you to circumnavigate it.
From the Hermitage there is a path that leads back to Pieve Torina but then to close the ring you have to take a stretch of the road that leads to Colfiorito to reach the car, so I decided not to do it.
