Descrizione

Inside the archbishop’s palace of San Severino Marche, the Museum of Recovered Art (MARec), the new diocesan museum of the Archdiocese of Camerino and San Severino Marche, is born.

As Archbishop Mons. Francesco Massara states: “After the destruction caused by the 2016 earthquake in central Italy, the rebirth also passes through the recovery of works of art.

To give new hope to this territory severely tried by the earthquake, it is the museum of the rebirth of which, alongside the masterpieces on display, a restoration laboratory will be put into operation where artistic creativity will be able to join the desire to build a finally bright future with one’s talent ” . From the words of the Director Barbara Mastracola: “The museum thus becomes an environment where values resist and, for the community, a meeting place, that square that many of our countries no longer have: a modern agora where to perceive, in a shared space but in an autonomous way, the vibration of colors, the width of the brush strokes, the outline of a figure, the shape and weight of the works “. The heritage on display is very rich, including authentic jewels such as the Madonna del Monte by Lorenzo d’Alessandro or the wooden statue of the Madonna di Macereto.

Among the many and many works, from every era and of disparate quality, which have found temporary shelter in this ancient palace, the choice was in fact dictated by the desire to compose a picture as representative as possible of the splendid sacred art produced by these lands and for these lands between the thirteenth and eighteenth centuries, finally bringing before the visitor’s eyes at least a little of that wonderful heritage of which the churches of the archdiocese are proud and which one day will have to return to welcome.
